The color of the belt is an indication of the skill of a Taekwondo student. Sometimes belts can be gained by winning competitions, the common way is by doing an exam. There are a few general rules for an exam:
Always wear a clean Uniform
Be at your best behavior - Remember, your trying to show that you deserve to wear the next belt
No jewelry allowed
No chewing gum
Be on time for the exam
Don't talk, unless it is urgent or important
The color white indicates that a person is "innocent", has no knowledge of the sport Taekwondo yet. The white-belt is automatically gained by taking Taekwondo classes. Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
The color orange indicates that the person is starting to change, this is the first step in the right direction.Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
The color yellow indicates that the person is getting to know the basic techniques, this stadium is compared to a plant growing its roots.Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
The color green indicates that a student is growing as a Taekwondo student. The color of the belt is compared to a plant growing its leafs.Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
The color blue indicates that a student is reaching higher, like a plant that is growing towards the sky.Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
The color red indicates danger. The student is warned to practice the control of his/her movements. The color red also warns an opponent.Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
W.T.F. Taekwondo requires that one has to be 16 years old to get a black belt. If you're younger, you get a poom, which can be replaced by a black-belt if you pass the age of 16. The requirements are the same as for the black-belt.Graduation requirements: Coming Soon
